chemicalpilate: Rady MGMT 4 vs 5

Hi ladies and gentlemen. I'm trying to decide which entry-level accounting class to take, 4 or 5. Have you taken one or both of these? Can you comment on the differences between the two, and the groups of students that select one over the other?

Thank you in advance!

the_real_girlie: For those who do not yet know...

UCSD students are doing something to help Japan! https://www.wepay.com/donate/helpjapan

The International Center also set up a page with a lot of resource and info: http://istudents.ucsd.edu/students/helpjapan.html

You can also, of course, text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10, which will show up on your next cell phone bill. Be prepared to receive 4 messages from Red Cross; 1 to confirm your donation, 1 to thank you, 1 to let you know you can text them to not receive any additional texts from Redcross, 1 to let you know that you have successfully unsubscribed from thier list. (Seriously, I just want to donate $10...)

merrygolds: Schedule For Spring

What do you think of my schedule for Spring quarter?

PHYS1C - Wuerthwein
BICD100 - Ghiara
CGS106 - Stephens (for minor)
CHEM140B - Whitesell

I'm kind of nervous of having 140B w/ Whitesell...But the only other prof is Molinski, and I heard he's even worse. Did anyone else have him for 140B and can give me some advice?

subtle_overlord: Should I buy the textbook?

I'm taking BIPN 100 with Fortes and BICD 110 with Wilhelm right now and I'm wondering if I really need to buy the textbook for these two classes. I'm planning on going to all the lectures and section once a week for these classes, as well as podcasting material I don't understand very well. I don't mind using course reserves once in a while and I don't even mind buying A.S. lecture notes but I'd really really rather not buy two expensive textbooks if I can help it (as was the case in several other classes I've taken). If you've taken the class with these professors did you feel that buying the book really made a difference?

From Massive head-wound Junco

UCSD campus (@Mandeville coffee kiosk), 6 December 2010

1. Who is still involved in banding the coastal (i.e. UCSD area) population of Juncos?
2. What is the major malfunction here?

theonlytime: Free 2-day shipping at Amazon.com for students

Amazon is offering a free year of their Amazon Prime service (normally $79 a year) to any student with a .edu email address. Not only does this give you free 2-day shipping on all orders, but you can also get next day shipping for $3.99: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info

If you're an avid Amazon shopper, this would be a great time to have free 2-day shipping due to their week long Black Friday Sale.

the_real_girlie: Bookstore is having a sale!

Hi, my dear fellow Tritons and those who love UCSD! I'm an alumnus who recently joined the community. I work at UCSD now. Feel free to drop me a message if you have questions about enrollment, transcripts - general administrative stuff related to your academics. I probably won't have all the answers, but I can tell you the places to go to for answers.

And um, the Bookstore is having a sale on the library walk. =D

tipsykitten: Daily habits of happy women

Don't wait for a trip to Paris or a winning lottery ticket for a needed boost. New research shows that small everyday habits make a big difference in your ability to cultivate a positive mindset. Weave into your routine these healthy choices from Prevention magazine, published by Rodale:

1. 9 a.m. — Start your day green: People who drink four or more cups of green tea a day are 44 percent less likely to be depressed than those who sip it less often. Its amino acid theanine may spur the release of the feel-good brain chemical serotonin.

2. 12:30 p.m. detox your lunch: Pack your plate with fresh fruit and veggies, in addition to fish and whole grains. Limit fried, sugary or processed foods to occasional treats. Women who eat this way have lower odds of depression, an Australian study found.

3. 10 p.m. track the good stuff: Every night, write down three things that went well for you that day. Be descriptive and note the role you have played in making them happen. You'll be increasingly mindful of how much control you have over the bright spots in your life.

concretepaper: Bid In This Literary Auction on Ebay and Help a Cancer Patient!! LImited Time Only!!

THIS WAS ORIGINALLY A FORM EMAIL MESSAGE. I REPOST IT HERE WITH NO OTHER INTRODUCTION OTHER THAN TO SAY THAT THIS IS NOT A CHAIN LETTER/POST. THE REAL PERSON AT THE END OF THIS IS IN FACT A DEAR FRIEND. SHE HAS HL AND IS DOING ALL SHE CAN TO HEAL & BATTLE THE CANCER IN HER TINY BODY. SHE HAS NO INSURANCE AND UPON ADVICE OF HER DOCTOR WHEN SHE WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED SHE COULD NOT KEEP HER JOB.

WE, HER FRIENDS & FAMILY, ARE DOING ALL WE CAN TO SUPPORT AND TO DRAW ATTENTION TO VARIOUS FUNDRAISING EVENTS THAT WE'RE HOPING WILL HELP TO DEFRAY HER SOME OF HER MOUNTING MEDICAL BILLS.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO EITHER CHECK OUT THE VARIOUS WEBSITE LINKS AND/OR PASS THIS ON TO OTHERS.
WE THANK YOU GREATLY FOR YOUR TIME AND PATIENCE.

Hello All,

(Please forgive the impersonal nature of this --and if you have already heard about this auction, I'm sorry for bombarding you--but I do feel very passionate about this cause and need help in getting the word out to others)...

We have launched a literary auction
(czilka.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/literary-auction/) to benefit Jennifer Derilo, who is currently battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Jennifer was diagnosed with Hodgkin's a few months ago, and is now undergoing treatment...WITHOUT health insurance (the debt began just for her to get diagnosed). She is 32 years old.

We would like to defray some of her medical costs, and make an awful and tragic situation a little less so, and thus the auction.

Will you please help us spread the word?
The following blog post acts as a portal/pointer to the auction on eBay:
czilka.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/literary-auction/

The Rumpus recently covered this auction:
therumpus.net/2010/09/bid-in-this-lit-auction-help-a-cancer-patient/

And so did the LA Times Book Blog:
latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy/2010/09/friend-literary-prizes-cancer-care-auction.html

The eBay auction includes offerings from writer friends, (the list
includes but is not limited to, Mat Johnson, Yiyun Li, Elmaz Abinader, Daniel Alarcón, Lac Su, Randa Jarrar, Justin Chin, Sarah Shun-Lien Bynum, Alexander Chee, Chris Abani, and many others). These offerings include signed books, private manuscript
critiques, advice sessions, help with graduate school applications, a customized personalized artist book, opportunities to have a character named after you in their next book, art work, and readings. Even if you don't know Jennifer personally, the items have great value!

The auction will be up for a few more days, with half the auctions
ending next Tuesday (9/14) evening PST...and half the auctions ending next Thursday (9/16) afternoon PST.

If you would like to make a direct contribution and bypass the auction, the paypal account for THIS auction is teamjender AT gmail DOT com
(teamjender@gmail.com). Even if you do not contribute, please help by getting the word out!

Thank you so much for your help and support!
Christine Zilka
